![]() It's advertised on Geisha's Blade as being iron. ![]() Which is really sad for a Ronin Katana product. I'm posting the stock pics to show what it's like, along with my simple re-wrap to show that even a simple cord wrap is better. It's too thick, looks ridiculous, feels worse, and the thick ito was immediately stripped off of mine. It's the old Paul Chen Practical axe handle all over again. The fit to the habaki is pretty good, too. I love the blade, which is why I'm keeping it. They show casting marks, are painted some kind of bronze wash color, and I loathe that they were put on this blade.ฤก1 inches of gorgeous U-no-Kubi-zukuri goodness. The kashira is even mounted off center, as in not perpendicular, to the tsuka. Horrible, cheap zinc alloy fuchi and kashira. Neutral balance, but just slightly blade heavy. I immediately stripped off the tsukamaki so that I could begin making it usable and just threw some paracord on it for tonight. I'm including the stock photos from their website showing the fittings, along with my own pictures. I've seen these fittings before, on the Geisha's Blade website, on a Tanto that appears identical to this one. It's thicker and bulkier than my Dojo Pro Katana. Remember the old Paul Chen tsuka? That's what this feels like. Before I ever drew the blade from the saya, I hated the entire tsuka. On a Dojo Pro line blade!?! The tsuka also had NONE of the wonderful shaping that appears on their Dojo Pro Katana. ![]() Upon drawing the Tanto from the bag I was shocked. It was wrapped in the standard black bag that all Japanese swords of varying size seem to come in. There were foam spacers keeping the blade from rattling around inside the smaller box. ![]() The Tanto was well packaged in a box inside of another box. This Tanto was bought for me, as a gift, by my other half. It's a beautiful blade, and I know that tanto were made with a great many different styles, so I'm fairly certain that this blade shape is historically accurate because it was probably used on one of the hundreds of thousands of Tanto that were made over the centuries. The shape of this blade is in the U-no-kubi-zukuri or Cormorant's Neck style. It was bought for me as a Christmas present by my significant other, and arrived right around Christmas time. I have wanted an O-tanto for years, and was super excited when I saw that Ronin Katana of all places had released a Dojo Pro Line Tanto. ![]()
